Tight spaces can be covered with a silicone T-mold. Cut the length of the T-bar to the length of the gap and slide it to cover the gap.

There are gaps between the oven and cabinets that can be wider than a T-bar. The following sections discuss how to close these gaps between the stove and cabinet. Keep reading!

If the gap is between 1.5 and 2.5 cm wide at both ends, you can first insert a support rod into the gap. A support bar is a solid cylindrical foam used to support the joint in large spaces.

Obtain a backing bar with a diameter slightly larger than the span width. A larger diameter ensures the support bar stays in place.

How much free space should there be between the kitchen and the cabinets?

You may have an inch gap or more if you have a smaller gap than the gap between your existing cabinets. Electric stoves are usually 30 inches wide. On the other hand, built-in ovens are usually 33 inches wide. To top it off, some gas stoves are up to 36 inches wide.

If you bought a home with existing cabinets the size of gas stoves or built-in ovens, and you have a smaller electric range, there will be a large gap between the oven and the cabinets.

You can remodel cabinets to match your oven and spend hundreds of dollars. Or you can opt for a solution that will cost you a lot less.

Steps to fill a gap greater than an inch

  1. Measure the space between the stove and cabinets. Measure the distance at the front of the oven and at the back. If your house wasn't built to be a perfect square, chances are your closets aren't perfectly square. This means that the distance between the cabinets and the oven is different at the front and back.
  2. Purchase wood planks from Lowe's or a similar store near you that closely matches the size of the spaces you will be filling.
  3. Cut the wooden planks to fit the width and height of your closet space. Mark the front boards, and if the space size is different, mark the back as well.
  4. Measure another piece of wood that you can use to cover the top of the wood filler.
  5. Pre-drill two holes at the top of the wooden planks and two more near the bottom, then screw the planks into place.
  6. Finish the front boards to match your cabinets, then decorate the top boards in a color that matches your countertops. A waterproof finish for the top boards would be a good idea to waterproof the boards.
  7. Put your stove back in place.

What are the most common oven sizes?

Most standard ovens are 30 inches wide, 25 to 27 inches deep, and 36 inches high. Dimensions do not include control panels, handles and buttons.

When planning a cabinet cutout for your oven, it is normal for the oven to slightly protrude beyond the depth of the cabinet by a few inches.

36-inch-wide cooktops have also established themselves in homes and should also be considered when planning kitchen countertops.

Stoves for apartments and kitchenettes

Small kitchens can benefit from the compact size of Compact Ovens, which range in width from 20 to 24 inches, depths from 25 to 27 inches, and heights from 36 to 41 inches.

Compact stoves can have a volume of up to three cubic feet, so they can be narrow in width but not small in cooking volume. They typically make up for the narrower width by having a taller design than typical 30-inch-wide ovens.

Commercial Ovens

Some homes have large kitchens equipped with a matching commercial-style range. These ovens are large enough for commercial use but built for home installation.

Single oven commercial style ovens range from 30 to 36 inches in width, 25 to 30 inches in depth, and a standard 36 inches in height.

Types of ovens to consider for cutouts

When planning countertop cutouts for your kitchen, there are three types of kitchens to consider.

independent ovens

Freestanding ovens are the common ovens you would see in most kitchens. These are the types of traditional stoves.

When planning your cutout for freestanding kitchens, you want the kitchen and counter to be the same height. You also want the depth and width of the counter to be flush with the fireplace.

However, cabinet designers usually leave some space between cabinets and the oven to avoid scratching the sides of the oven when you slide it in or pull it out for cleaning. This is where the gap-covering methods we provide come into play.

It can be installed alone, even without cabinets and counters on both sides. Its sides have a matching finish and it has a small splash guard where the controls usually are.

Unfortunately, the built-in backsplash limits the freestanding range's installation options. Freestanding stoves are the most affordable stoves among the types we will be discussing here.

car ovens

PushOvens are designed to have a lip on both sides and the back. These lips are intended to go over the counter to serve as a built-in gap sealer.

The lip on the back has replaced the backsplash. Therefore, buttons and controls are usually located on the front of the stove.

You can install the built-in ovens as usual facing the wall or on the island counter, as this has no back splash. The sides of a slide oven are not treated. This allows you to position the cabinets closer to the stove without worrying about scratching the side panel.

When planning the cutout for a slide-out oven, you should measure the height of the oven to the bottom of the rim. The width should also be measured without the rim, so that the side edges of the oven cover the small space between the oven and the worktop.

Since it also has a lip at the back that needs to go over the counter, there needs to be room at the back of the cutout to accommodate the lip at the back of the stove. This goes well with a layer of backsplash installed on the wall.

The edge makes it perfect for cleaning counters and stoves. You don't have to worry about something getting into the space between the oven and cabinets. It is more expensive than a freestanding oven.

Independent built-in oven

This type of kitchen is like a sliding kitchen. The difference is that it does not have lips on the sides.

A freestanding built-in oven has a lip on the back that slides into a traditional cutout like a freestanding oven. Alternatively, you can also cover the space at the back if you have a counter there.

It can also be installed on a kitchen island, as it does not have a backsplash like the stand-alone stove. However, the sides must be covered as with a normal freestanding stove.

built-in stove

ONEcomeThe stove is a stove commonly installed in island countertops. Can be installed to fit neatly on countertops. The surrounding cupboards, side and bottom, can also be designed to suit the fireplace.

It has an oven, but no storage underneath. Custom cabinets should act like feet when you install them. It can be installed behind two cupboard doors to hide the oven door and give it a more uniform appearance.

Built-in ovens look great when integrated into countertops and cabinets. Unfortunately, this is often the most expensive oven option and requires highly customized cabinetry and plumbing.
